Seeing no clear path to carry its bizarre GEM idea cellphone to market, Andy Rubin’s Important abruptly stopped being an organization earlier this week. Now, by full coincidence, a bundle of Important swag has appeared on the market on eBay — together with an unreleased charging dock.
Along with the dock, the sale consists of an Important Cellphone in Ocean Depths blue plus Important’s clip-on 360-degree digicam, a case for that digicam, a headphone adapter, and a pair of earbuds. All of the objects are unopened besides the audio adapter and the dock, which is visibly worn.
Given the timing and the truth that the sale consists of an unreleased prototype, it appears attainable (possible, even!) that the itemizing was posted by somebody with ties to the corporate who noticed its folding as an opportune time to make a buck. As of writing, the public sale is as much as $535 with 39 bids. Should you’re interested by proudly owning a bizarre piece of smartphone historical past, hit up the hyperlink under and place your bid. You have bought till 5:59 p.m., Jap on February 20.
I’m sure many of you were chomping at the bits to own this piece of smartphone history, but sadly, the listing is no longer available. The page now says the listing was “ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.”
Since the dock was a prototype, it’s possible the owner was in a legal grey area by attempting to sell an unreleased product. At least we know about the dock’s existence now, so that’s neat.
